Dr Andy McNair - Director, Investment Portfolio
Andy has been working in the life sciences field for more than twenty five years. He became involved with Innova Partnerships soon after Steve Howell set the company up, becoming our first non-executive director. He is immensely proud to see Innova reaching its tenth anniversary.
Andy studied chemistry at Strathclyde University, going on to take a PhD in hydrogel polymers and drug delivery. After undertaking further research, he joined Biocompatibles Ltd in London, working in the cardiovascular division and leading the formation of a drug delivery group,, which was later sold as part of a £160m deal with Abbott Laboratories. Andy led the initial product development of what is now Dexamet, which when launched, was one of the first commercially available drug-eluting stents.
Andy came back to Scotland to work with AorTech International Plc on the product development of a synthetic tri-leaflet heart valve; a project that also involved the universities of Leeds and Liverpool, Glasgow Royal Infirmary and CSIRO in Australia. Andy then moved to Connect Scotland, a business development and technology networking company, holding positions of Regional Director, Director and latterly Managing Director, during 9 years with the company. Following this, Andy joined Glasgow Caledonian University, most recently working as Director of Research & Innovation and has specific responsibility for commercialisation and intellectual property.
Away from work, Andy’s main passions are football; coaching and supporting his son’s team as well as following Kilmarnock FC. He is also a keen tennis player and an avid music fan.
