Prof Steve Howell - Founder
Steve has over twenty years’ life science commercialisation experience. His passion is helping build and grow life science companies. In particular, he enjoys working with companies to bring them to profitability and supporting management teams to build great businesses of which they can be proud.
Steve founded Innova Partnerships in 2006 and has been instrumental in creating over a dozen life science start ups and has raised in excess of £100m financing. Working with his colleague, Joanne, Steve spun out the dental business, Reminova Ltd, from King's College London and guided the company through its inception to the ground breaking US/EU crowd funding in 2015 where it reached its investment goal within three weeks of its crowd launch. During 2015 Steve mentored Innova portfolio company Imhanz Ltd through its trade sale exit to Norwegian-based Mohn Aqua Group. From start-up to exit this was a very rapid turnaround of eighteen months and represented Innova's first portfolio exit, proving Innova's business model. During 2016-2017 Steve oversaw the exit of Innova Biosciences to SYGNIS AG which returned circa $15m to shareholders and was Innova Partnerships second exit.
Steve was made Visiting Professor of Commercial Innovation at King's College London in 2015. Prior to starting Innova, Steve was Director of Business Development at Alere Inc and before that was Research Director at diagnostics company Unipath Ltd. After a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology he undertook a couple of post doc positions and returned to the UK to start his career at Unilever plc in 1996.
To relax, Steve enjoys hill walking in the Scottish highlands, skiing and canoeing on Loch Earn with his wife Isobel.
